It’s amazing how the human mind works.
There is so much depth to it that it’s natural most people will go and experience their entire lives without ever truly understanding the inner workings of their own minds.
If you don’t know what auto-pilot is, it’s basically when you’re really used to doing something and you start to do it without even paying attention — You do it automatically.
The thing is if we get really accustomed to our routine, we basically start spending most of the day on auto-pilot mode.
Naturally, once you go into auto-pilot mode for most of your day, even though it might feel nice to not have to focus on what you’re doing, it will have consequences.
And the main consequence would be self-sabotage.
How does it happen?
Well, if you’re always in auto-pilot mode, you’re not consciously thinking of what you are doing.
This means you’ve become comfortable with your daily tasks and obligations. The fact that you’re comfortable with that means your routine has become part of your comfort zone. You feel GREAT doing things within your comfort zone and very anxious or uncomfortable whenever you have to step out of your comfort zone.
The thing is, the less you step out of your comfort zone, the more resistance you will feel when you try.
This ends up creating a vicious cycle that makes you just yearn to do the same things every day, just because they’re easy.
And THAT is where you start to sabotage yourself.
You’re not pushing yourself and you are not growing. You are just feeling fine and becoming addicted to that feeling.
But what about your goals?
How can you accomplish great things if all you seek is “feeling nice and comfortable”?
This is not the way.
And if you do want to achieve your goals, then you absolutely need constantly push yourself OUT of your comfort zone.
In order to do this, you cannot live your life on auto-pilot. All this will do is ensure that you remain exactly where you are right now (or worse, you could even end up losing the things that allow for your current comfort).
You have to snap out of it and do what you CONSCIOUSLY and DELIBERATELY defined as what you needed to do to reach your long-term goals in life.
NOT what you do automatically.
Nobody has ever achieved something amazing by just going through the motions and not minding their strategy. I know you probably trust your instinct, but your instinct can only help you in the short term.
For the long term, you need to think slowly. You need to reflect and ponder many different possibilities. And you need to make balanced decisions.
That’s why I am telling you being on auto-pilot mode will only end in self-sabotage. You are delegating your decision-making to your automatic system. And that system is lazy and just craves pleasure, positive emotions, and comfort. All of this is not good for your long-term fulfillment.
So the question is what do you want out of life?
If mediocrity is fine, I would never judge you for that. Whatever makes you happy makes you happy.
Just make sure it genuinely makes you happy and you’re not just avoiding the huge challenge that lies beyond mediocrity.
Be true to what will really make you happy and pursue that.
But always do your best to take pauses to reflect on your life. Something as rare as once a month would bring you incredible levels of benefit (as long as you are consistent with it).
Just wake up and stop living life through the motions. You owe it to yourself to consciously EXPERIENCE your life.
I wish you the best of luck in all of your endeavors!
Never stop hustling & never stop dreaming,
